In the event you need medical care, private clinics can be found in most places. Pharmacies stock a variety of brand-name drugs and can help with simple complaints. You are advised to take-out a medical insurance before you travel as Malaysia does not have reciprocal health service agrements with other nations.
However, if you do experience health problems, you will find the quality hospitals and clinics in Malaysia to be quite high.Most doctors and nurses speak English. Pharmacies (chemists) are of similarly high quality and can be found in the bigger cities.

Government offices are usually open from 0800hr to 1615hr for weekdays. Most close for lunch from 1245hr to 1400hr, and on Fridays the lunch break is from 1215hr to 1445hr for Friday prayers at the mosque.
Shops are open from 0930hr to 1900hr while most supermarkets, departmental stores and shopping complexes operate from 1000hr to 2200hr. However, banks are open from 0930hr to 1600hr from Monday to Friday and all banks are closed on Saturdays.

The Ministry of Education runs most school in Malaysia. The Malaysian education system is similar to the British education system; children attend pre-school, kindergarten, primary school and secondary school. Upon graduating from secondary school, eligible students may continue on to university.
Children start primary school at the age of seven and instruction is in Bahasa Malaysia. However, English, Tamil & Chinese is also taught at schools.

Traveller's cheques are accepted at banks, hotels and large departmental stores. Most major brands of traveller's cheques are accepted in Malaysia.
